1938年10月廣州淪陷前夕，中山大學遷往雲南澂江（澄江）；
1940年10月，學校遷返粵北樂昌縣坪石鎮，各學院分散在各村辦學；
1945年1月16日，由於坪石被日軍包圍，中山大學緊急再次遷校，學校一分為三，遷往粵東各縣。
信件在1945年1月寄出，寄件人可能剛剛逃避戰亂到達重慶。
